In the modern voiceover career, talent alone isn’t enough. Your voice is your instrument, but social media is your stage, casting director, and networking event, all rolled into one. For voice actors, the question isn’t whether to be on social media, but how to use each platform most effectively.
I currently use LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, and Instagram on the regular, and I’ll be honest: I’m still figuring out if TikTok is just another place to blast the social megaphone. But here’s the truth: each platform serves a vital, unique purpose in the marketing mix.
LinkedIn: The Professional Casting Office
If you want to book work, LinkedIn is where you must be strategic. It’s not about posting viral content; it’s about professional networking and showcasing your expertise.
How I Use It: I focus on connecting with casting directors, production managers, and corporate clients who hire voice talent for e-learning, explainer videos, and corporate narration. My posts center on professional development, insights into the voice industry, and sharing my non-NDA-bound voiceover work.
The Goal: Establishing credibility and building a professional network that recognizes my skill as a dependable voice actor.
Instagram & Threads: The Portfolio and Personality Hub
Instagram and Threads are your visual and conversational storefronts. They are the perfect places to demonstrate your range, your process, and your personality.
How I Use It: I showcase quick voice acting demos, behind-the-scenes looks at my home studio, and use engaging videos (like my “Voiceovers for Everyday Life” series) to demonstrate my comedic and dramatic range. Threads is for quick, industry-relevant conversation and connection.
The Goal: Highlighting the person behind the microphone and making my voiceover brand relatable and memorable.
TikTok: The Range and Reach Machine
Is TikTok just another megaphone? Yes, but it’s one with a fundamentally different audience and format—it prioritizes entertainment and demonstrating range through short, punchy videos.
The Opportunity: As a voice actor, TikTok is the ideal platform to showcase your character voices, accents, and technical skills through trending sounds and interactive content (like Duet Challenges). This massive reach is perfect for building brand awareness that funnels back to your professional demos.
The Goal: Viral reach, demonstrating vocal agility, and attracting users who might not be on traditional casting sites.
